The Rudis Sword

The Rudis sword is a replica of a type of sword used in ancient Rome, specifically a gladius, which was the primary weapon of Roman soldiers. The Rudis was not a weapon but a symbol of freedom, given to a gladiator when he was granted his freedom. The Rudis sword is used in modern times as a ceremonial sword in various settings, including in reenactment groups and in military ceremonies. It is also used in some historical European martial arts (HEMA) schools as a training sword.

The sword is typically made of wood or metal and has a simple design, with a straight blade and a wooden hilt. It is often decorated with engravings or other embellishments to give it a more authentic look. The Rudis sword is sometimes used in ceremonies for veterans or retired service members as a symbol of honor and recognition for their service.
