Devil Dog Shirts is proud to unveil the USMC Tun Tavern Born in a Bar Marine Corps Ladies Shirt to honor our warrior heritage. The very first Marines frequented that same tavern. This is our birthplace and our history. Semper Fidelis!
Tun Tavern, Philadelphia, is the birthplace of the United States Marine Corps! This was a very popular bar during colonial days. It was frequented by people like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. The tavern itself was established as early during 1685!
On November 10th, 1775, Continental Congress saw fit to raise two battalions of Marines. The search was on for recruits. Tun Tavern was a natural selection. With the promise of a cold beer and adventure, many citizens signed up to become one of the few! The new recruits were placed under the charge of Captain Samuel Nicholas. The rest is Marine Corps History!
