The ancient Spartan was catapulted into legendary status after the Battle of Thermopylae at the Hot Gates. 300 Spartans took to the front, holding off hundreds of thousands of Persian soldiers. They would ultimately be defeated by King Xerxes Persian army. Yet not before they made them pay dearly. Xerxes army would not continue the campaign to take Greece after sustaining such a defeat.
