USMC Tun Tavern Alumni Coffee Mug
On November 10, 1775 Continental Congress sought to raise two units of Marines to serve aboard the Naval vessels as an expeditionary force. First Marine Corps Commandant Samuel Nicholas decided the recruitment would take place at Tun Tavern, Philadelphia. He Enlisted the aid of the proprietors Robert and Peggy Mullens. With the promise of a cold beer and adventure, many heeded the call. They would be the very first Marines!
