On November 10th, 1775, Continental Congress saw fit to raise two battalions of Marines. The search was on for recruits. Tun Tavern was a natural selection. With the promise of a cold beer and adventure, many citizens signed up to become one of the few! The new recruits were placed under the charge of Captain Samuel Nicholas. Furthermore, he was our first US Marine Corps Commandant!
