USMC Tun Tavern Alumni Poster
Tun Tavern, Philadelphia, is the birthplace of the Marine Corps! This was a popular tavern during colonial days. It was frequented by people such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. The tavern was established back in 1685!
On November 10th, 1775, Continental Congress saw fit to raise two battalions of Marines. The search was on for recruits. Tun Tavern was a natural selection. With the promise of a cold beer and adventure, many citizens signed up to become one of the few! The new recruits were placed under the charge of Captain Samuel Nicholas. Furthermore, he was the first Commandant of the Marine Corps!
Devil Dog Shirts is proud to unveil the USMC Tun Tavern Alumni Shirt to honor our warrior heritage. The very first Marines frequented that same tavern. This is our birthplace and our history. Semper Fidelis!
